The National Endoscopic
Database (NED)
CORI practice sites capture endoscopic procedure data
that are automatically transmitted to CORI. The practice
data are stripped of most patient and physician identifiers before
transmitting, tested for completeness and accuracy, merged
with data from
all
participating
practices, and stored in the National Endoscopic Database
(NED).
CORI implements rigorous data standards to ensure:
- HIPAA compliance: CORI
adheres to the most stringent HIPAA regulations. Patient identifiers are removed
from the data files prior to transmission to CORI qualifying the data files to be
a Limited Data Set. In addition, all practitioner identifiers are removed from all
data sent to CORI.
- A secure computing
environment: Data stored in the NED are protected
in a secured facility using state-of-the-art computer
security methods.
- Data quality testing: All data are tested
for completeness and accuracy prior to NED inclusion.
- Controlled data access: Research requests
for aggregate data from the NED require approval by a research
review committee.
Uses of NED Data
CORI may provide summary data of interest to both community-based
and research-oriented providers, pharmaceutical companies,
hospital or healthcare systems and other GI organizations.
Data uses include:
Practice Support
Practice Benchmarking - Allows practices
and individual endoscopists to compare their results with
national trends.
Quality Assurance Reporting - Supports
quality improvement initiatives from such organizations as
JCAHO and NCQA.
CORI participants have the ability to request simple queries
that include reports of key statistics and practice trends.
Please submit your request using the Data
Request Form. Simple
queries requested for practice benchmarking and quality improvement
efforts do not require approval by CORI's Research Operations
Committee. Researchers whose practice sites participate in
the CORI consortium may request simple queries free of charge.
CORI participants with more complex requests may be charged
a service fee.
Examples of simple queries include:
- Findings frequencies by procedure
type
- Indications frequencies by procedure type
- Indications or findings by age, race or gender
- Site type distribution
- Patient demographics
- Sedation medications used by procedure
- Proportion of COL including polyp findings
- Most frequent indication per procedure
- Therapies used for a specific finding
- Procedure completion rate
- Frequencies of procedures by month/quarter
Note: Data cannot be
used for abstracts or publications without completing the
proper request and review process. If you require data for
an abstract or publication, please submit your request via
the Data Request
Form. If you have any questions, please
contact CORI Research Services at research@cori.org.
Research Support
Hypothesis Testing - CORI acts as an excellent hypothesis-generating
tool by providing insight and substantiation for development
of a research hypothesis.
Pilot Research Data - Fulfills a requirement for grant proposals.
Data for Research Proposals - Supports a wide range of endoscopic
research projects and clinical studies.
