Research FAQ
Do I have to be a CORI user to use the CORI database for research purposes?
No, you do not have to be a CORI user to use the database for research purposes. Like all other researchers, you will be required to submit a proposal that will undergo a review process by the CORI Research Operations Committee. Non-users may be assessed an additional fee for this service.
If I am a CORI user and have a question about information in the CORI database (e.g., the percentage of time the cecum is successfully reached in colonoscopy) does my request need to undergo the full research review process?
Not necessarily. If you want to use the information for Quality Assurance or practice benchmarking purposes and not for research/publication it should not require the full review process. You may submit your question to CORI research services via the Data Request Form. Your question may also become a topic for our next newsletter or it may be added to our list of available queries on our website for others to use.
What is the process for applying to use the CORI database for research purposes?
Please follow the following process when applying to use CORI data:
I. Review the CORI database for what information is currently available. You may also contact the CORI office for more details about data that is currently available.
II. Write up a proposal that details what CORI information will be needed for the project and include specific information about new items that would be needed to be added to the database screens (if applicable). CORI Research Analysts are available to work with you during this process to answer any questions or clarifications about the data available.
III. Complete and submit the Data Request Form.
IV. The proposal will be reviewed by the CORI Research Operations Committee for feasibility and scientific merit. If you are requesting information needed for specific deadlines, you will need to submit the request to us at least 90 days in advance of the due date. The earlier you submit this information, the more likely we will be able to meet your target date.
Is it possible for CORI to create a particular query for my site that we can use as needed on our site database?
Yes, this is possible depending on the information required and the complexity of the query. More complex queries may be assessed a service fee. Please contact your CORI Site liaison or you may submit this request via the Data Request Form and someone will contact you to discuss the logistics of your request.
Why should I share data about my practice with others?
The primary goal of data sharing is to use the merged data to examine endoscopic practice patterns and study outcomes of endoscopy. Sharing research data will facilitate the advancement of GI medicine and ultimately increase the quality of patient care. Data sharing also allows participants to self-benchmark against peers.
