CORI Announces Over One Million Procedures
in the National Endoscopic Database (NED)
PORTLAND, OR – July 27, 2004 – The Clinical
Outcomes Research Initiative (CORI), a research organization
dedicated to improving the overall practice of endoscopy,
announces it has collected over one million records have been
collected in the
National Endoscopic Database (NED).
CORI solidifies its leadership as the primary source of
gastroenterological outcomes data sets as it reaches a significant
milestone with the aggregation of over one million procedures
in the National Endoscopic Database.
Since the 1995 introduction of the CORI software and National
Endoscopic Database, over 750 endoscopists at 114 sites across
the United States have a combined dataset consisting of 1,092,045
procedures. Colonoscopies, EGD’s and flexible sigmoidoscopies
account for approximately 95% of all procedures in the NED,
while ERCP, EUS, motility, bronchoscopies and capsule endoscopies
make up the remaining 5%.
CORI sites agree to send de-identified procedure data to
the National Endoscopic Database at weekly intervals. All
data are scrubbed to remove patient and physician identifiers.
In return, sites receive free access to full-featured endoscopy
reporting software and professional training and support.
Additionally, CORI sites are able to query the National Endoscopic
database and benchmark their practice with the national CORI
consortium.
"We are thrilled to have reached this landmark. This is
possible with the diligence of the CORI users and their commitment
to research and quality assurance initiatives," said
Jennifer Holub, Research Data Manager.
About the Clinical Outcomes Research Initiative
The Clinical Outcomes Research Initiative (CORI) was founded
in 1995 by the ASGE as a national data repository for endoscopic
research. The shared repository is designed to promote endoscopic
research among GI physicians. CORI is a leading source of
GI research information, receiving more than 20,000 clinical
procedure reports from more than 750 physicians nationwide
each month. CORI research data have been used to support
more than 50 major research initiatives to date. CORI operates
as a not-for-profit organization under the auspices of the
ASGE. For more information, visit CORI’s web site: www.cori.org
