CORI Clinical Studies Update:
Expanding
Patient Recruitment
October 7, 2004 - The Clinical Outcomes Research Initiative
(CORI) is expanding recruitment for the "Colonoscopic
surveillance in patients with adenomas” study. This study
is funded by an NIDDK grant awarded to Oregon Health &
Science University. The
goal of the study is to determine which patients have the
greatest risk of developing colorectal
cancer (CRC) based on criteria such as family history of
CRC, lifestyle habits, overall health and characteristics
such as the size and location of the polyp.
Over the last two years, CORI has recruited nearly 2,000
patients for this research and is currently extending an
invitation to participate in this study to all of the sites
in the CORI consortium.
CORI promotes site participation by conducting all patient
recruitment, working with local or central Institutional
Review Boards, and providing the follow-up calls needed to
collect research data.
CORI’s clinical trial services augment the extensive
data in the National Endoscopic Database. In addition to
these services, CORI’s engineers may develop new technologies
to collect research data more effectively.
CORI’s active clinical research projects include:
- Colonoscopic
surveillance in patients with adenomas
- Multi-center study
of natural history for Barrett’s
esophagus
- Complications of colonoscopy performed on asymptomatic
patients
- Use of the CORI database to determine hemorrhagic
and thrombotic adverse events in the peri-endoscopic
period
If your site would like to participate in any of these studies,
propose a new research protocol, or you would like further
